The picture below is of the Cape Arago Lighthouse taken just after an early winter storm had passed. The waves were still quite high, and once they reached the coastline you can see they created quite a scenic picture with wave heights crashing the coast at about 60 feet. Winters are awesome along the Oregon coast, but can also be very dangerous if you do not heed the warnings of the local Coast Guard and residents like myself who always say "do not ever turn your back to the ocean", even if it's a calm day. Sneaker waves can catch you by surprise and with the cold waters of the Pacific there is very little time to survive. Enjoy the beauty of the Oregon coast, but heed the words of warning and always proceed with extreme caution.
